Keep me clear! Skincare DO’s for acne-prone skin

Did you know that more than 60 million North Americans suffer from acne? While there’s comfort in knowing that you’re not alone, like most people, you’d still like to put an end to it.

Even though there’s still no cure for acne, there are things that you can do to help cope and keep it under control. Here are a few “DO’s” when it comes to caring for acne-prone skin:

Adopt a Consistent Skincare Routine
Acne is caused by hormonal disturbances, bacteria and inflammation within the body, so in order to keep it at bay, you need to practice an acne targeted skincare regimen morning & evening – every day! If you slack off, your skin will too!

For Moderate Acne, TRY:
Clearskin Professional Acne Treatment System. This easy to use 3 Step Regimen works to deliver skin that’s clearer in just 3 days!
Tip: Save 65% off and Order your Clearskin Professional System Demo from your C2 What’s New.

For Occasional Breakouts OR Monthly Hormone Induced Pimples, TRY: That’s Deep Purifying Gel Cleanser by mark, followed by: Clearskin Professional Invisible Blemish Treatment – applied at the first sign of a blemish, this clear gel will help speed up the healing process. If you have combination or oily skin, an oil-free moisturizer such as Matte Chance Mattifying Lotion by mark is also a good choice to complete your routine.

Cover Up Naturally
Steer clear of oil-based cosmetics and opt for a more natural option such as Smooth Minerals Concealer from Avon. The mineral formula provides buildable coverage, while being gentle on your skin. This gives blemishes a chance to breathe and heal without being visible to everyone else.

Stop picking!
You might think that you’re speeding the purging and healing process, but what you’re actually doing is setting the stage for future breakouts. Anytime you damage your skin, you create an opening through which bacteria can enter.

Avoid over-washing
People have a tendency to think that the more they wash their skin, the better. This is false. Over-washing actually breaks down your skin’s own natural protective barrier, which leaves skin more susceptible to damage, which then opens the door for more bacteria. Plus, the more you wash, the more oil your skin will produce to compensate. Instead, wash your skin morning and evening and if you find yourself looking shiny midday, use blotting papers such as “Cheat Sheets” by mark.

Hot water is NOT the answer
Another misconception is that you need to use hot water to wash your face. This is also false. Water should be between lukewarm and room temperature. All hot water will do is dry out your skin, resulting in more oil production and the heat can actually aggravate your condition even more.
